what does the iron gate company plan to do in 2015

Well 2014 is finished and here at the iron gate company, 2014 was a year of change we relocated to the south east of england in dover Kent.
Due to the high demands of a contract we won we had to suspend our website and nearly all work outside of our contract with gillcrest homes a measure we dont regret as we have learnt a lot and met a lot of new people
so onto 2015 This year looks to be even more exciting we have already took measures to enable us to relaunch our website despite this year our works with gillcrest being more in depth than last year!

Wooden gates

Here at the Iron gate company we are a one stop gate shop as well metal gates we also make wooden soft wood gates

The Wooden gates we make are Tongue and Groove Ledge and Brace gates
our gates are all made from Vth grade Scandinavian redwood we use PSE  timber (planed square edge) for the frame- we use 4 x 2 for the cross braces and 2 x 2 for uprights and braces as shown in the photo below:

Wooden gates -back frame of our wooden gates

the cladding to the front of these gates is from ex 19mm tongue and groove boards notice this is ex 19 which means the finished size after planing is around 15mm

All joints on this style of gate a butt jointed which basically means the joints are butted together then screwed together this is an efficient and cost effective joint that does the job and is not labor intensive which is ideal for this type of wooden gate - a cheap way of closing a gap that gives privacy security and looks good without spending a small fortune.

we make these as a single gate or a driveway gate from following these links you can purchase directly from our store  we have a wide range of sizes and other options such as a bow top or complete with fittings ready to hang them

we finish our gates in a solvent based water proofing timber treatment we decided to use this instead of tanalising due to the fact that our treatment seals and repels water cutting down on swelling which is an inherent problem with soft wood gates

we do plan in the near future to bring you a range of hardwood gates so keep your eyes peeled

reproduction wooden show lorry

Despite our company being called iron gate company our past work goes further than just gates and railings, as we mentioned in previous posts we have a wide variety of talent within our workforce one of which (the guy who makes our wooden gates) also has experience working for a large commercial body builders before he started working with wood

so when we were aproached with this project his previous and current experiences came together to produce this great looking reproduction truck body
Dropside wooden lorry body old fashioned wooden comercial vehicle

this body is not suitable for real work this is purely a show piece
if this was going to be worked it really would need to be made from a hardwood but our customer wanted this purely as a show vehicle so elected to use scandinavian redwood and treat it with stain afterwards instead.

we created this post to show off what we can do and to show we are not scared by out of the ordinary commisions if you have anything you would like making dont hesitate to ask

we have added a quick photo gallery to show off the different views

Opportunities available for retailers and tradesmen

In this post we are highlighting some opportunities available for retailers and tradesmen from the gate company

First for retailers

We are currently expanding our range from just gates and railings and as we introduce further ranges for all the seasons we would love to have other retailers on board to help us to get our brand out there.
We pride ourselves on bringing great quality at inexpensive prices.

We are currently looking for traditional bricks and mortor store owners, aswell as a limited number of ebay / Amazon resellers who would like to sell our products.

We are really interested in getting our products out into retailers such as garden centres and independent DIY stores.
We do not currently sell on these market places,as we progress our business forward we aim to produce higher volumes to improve effiency.

We are working very hard on building our own website up and increasing our brand awareness but this takes a lot of time and we feel that setting ourselves up on these market places will spread our time very thin.

If you are interested in stocking our items we will offer a great markup (subject to pre agreement) priority shipping direct to you or drop shipping direct to your customer (no upfront fees).

Our second opportunity is for tradesmen around the Uk. We are looking for skilled tradesmen that would like to be considered for our subcontractors network for installing gates and railings.
The right applicants would need valid insurance for working at customers properties have own transport and tools and the correct PPE to carry out work.
You will be required to carry out all work in a clean and professional manner.

These railings were installed using a coredrill method where we drill a large bore hole into the top of the wall and cement the post into the wall although this is a more difficult way of installing we feel they look a lot better and worth the extra work involved

wrought iron wall chandelier St. Marys church derby built by the famous architect A.M.H Pugin

Originally these wall chandeliers were going to be built by B. Rourkes an ironsmith that has completed works on Downing Street, and Liverpool Football Club but sadly they went into administration.

One of our contacts in the wrought iron supply industry aquired a lot of  Rourkes components. Our contact was then contacted by the architect dealing with the works on St. Marys who passed our details on to him.

As a result, we have currently made the first of eight wall chandeliers which are currently being passed for approval from numerous societies and bodies that are involved in such a historical building
and we hope to have the go ahead within the new year.

In these pictures the items are not finished and are in unfinished metal. Once everything gets the final approval we hope to be able bring you pictures of them finished and finished in place within this magnificent church.....
It is truly an honor to have been able to work on this project and we look forward to finishing the rest of them.

We hope that in sharing the story of this job we have highlighted just what we are able to do and our passion for decorative ironwork. If you have anything that you would like producing, no matter how complicated, decorative or out of the ordinary it would be a pleasure to hear from you.
